Ali Stroker Reveals She Had a Miscarriage and Recalls the 'Grief and Confusion' That Followed (2025)

Ali Stroker says she's going through a “scary time,” which began when she had a miscarriage.

The Tony Award winner, 37, marked the end of the Broadway season on Friday, April 25, by sharing a vulnerable Instagram post reflecting on the “tough” period, including the pregnancy loss she experienced earlier this year.

“It’s been a tough season. I honestly have wanted to hide and not share anything about my life,” Stroker wrote alongside a smiling selfie. “But these are the moments that I need to practice what I preach and have the courage to be vulnerable.”

"This past January I had a miscarriage that surprised me and knocked me off my feet,” the New Jersey native continued. “Then a month later I lost a job that meant so much to me.”

It was a destabilizing experience, Stroker — who shares son Jesse Kenneth, 2, with her husband, director David Perlow — went on to explain. “I had thought I knew what the future would hold," she wrote, "and in 30 days was brought to my knees with grief and confusion.”

So as the Broadway season nears its end, the actress has decided to take 30 days to “do a self care project/promise/experiment.”

“I’m curious,” Stroker continued, “as to what will happen and where this next season will take me. Right now, I’m CHOOSING (because damn I definitely don’t want) to put myself out there in a scary time. I don’t know what’s next and I want to say HERE I AM.”

The Glee alum finished her post by explaining that she selected Maggie Rogers’ “Love You for a Long Time” to accompany it because it reminds her of Jesse — and also serves as a reminder to show herself the grace she shows him.

“I’m choosing this song today because it’s one of Jesse’s favorites and it’s so easy to love him for all of who he is and the stages he’s in,” she wrote of the toddler. “I want to do the same for myself. So here we go!”

Stroker’s vulnerability was met with lots of support in the comments. Fellow Glee alum Jenna Ushkowitz wrote, “Love you, sending lots of love and healing growing energy your way. You are such a light.”

Matt Bomer also offered words of support, writing, “Sending you love and strength today and always my friend. 💛💛💛.”

Stroker and Perlow welcomed their son in November 2022, and the star later told PEOPLE that the first few months as a new mom were the “best experience of my life.”

"Jesse is so special,” she told PEOPLE in 2023. “He's so much fun. He is laughing and smiling, and he doesn't say words, but he is super vocal and makes so many sounds.

"He's just such a light,” she continued. “He's so bright and caring and curious, and we're just so lucky. He's such a good boy."
