Core Keeper is a mining sandbox adventure that allows the player to explore the deep underground, mining various resources, and defeating bosses in the hopes of one day returning to their world. However, while the common resources or dirt walls can be easily punched away, the more valuable materials and thicker walls will require the player to equip their miner with a pickaxe.

Beginner Tips For Core Keeper
Core Keeper can be intimidating at the start. Here's everything beginners need to know to survive this endless cavern of mystery.
As players progress in Core Keeper, they can eventually make stronger pickaxes, which not only swing faster but also destroy blocks quicker by doing more damage. These are by far the best pickaxes a player should consider crafting while playing.
5 Octarine Pickaxe
Has The Potential To Be Strong As Rarer Pickaxes

- Made at the Octarine Workbench
- 10 Coral Wood
- 12 Octarine Bars
The Octarine Pickaxe is a mid to end-game pickaxe players are likely to craft during their adventure within the sandbox of Core Keeper, though when looking at some of the best pickaxes the player can craft, or find, the Octarine Pickaxe is a great option.
Starting at level 12, this tool is great for dealing with the various compact walls that make up the underground of Core Keeper while also helping the player mine other materials that can then be used to expand their base of operation or create new weaponry for dealing with the bosses that need to be defeated.
Base Level | 12 |

Melee Damage | 99-121 |
Durability | 800 |

4 Solarite Pickaxe
A Valuable High Damage Pickaxe

- Made at the Solarite Workbench
- 20 Solarite Bars
- 20 Gleam Wood
Players who are looking for a pickaxe that will destroy some of the strongest walls in fewer hits should look no further than the Solarite Pickaxe. After unlocking the Solarite Workbench, players can craft the Solarite Pickaxe to give them an easier time while exploring in Core Keeper.

Core Keeper: Best Starting Backgrounds, Ranked
The different starting backgrounds in Core Keeper grant helpful buffs to players. Here's which ones are the best to choose.
Although the Solarite Pickaxe may be the second-best pickaxe when it comes to the base mining damage, it is still unfortunately beaten by the likes of the Ancient Pickaxe, due to it sharing the regular mining speed of the other pickaxes. However, if players haven't found the Ancient Pickaxe yet, this is still a great option for players to craft with it, only requiring a few resources.
Base Level | 16 |

Melee Damage | 129-157 |
Durability | 800 |
Effects | +735 Mining Damage |
3 Iron Pickaxe
Incredibly Overpowered Mining Damage Scaling

- Made at the Iron Workbench
- 4 Wood
- 4 Iron Bars
- 1 Gold Bar
Some players may be surprised to see this lower-level pickaxe so high on the list of the best pickaxes in Core Keeper. While there are better pickaxes to be made that start at a higher level, players can upgrade their pickaxes using various materials to increase the overall mining damage caused by their pickaxes.
The Iron Pickaxe can be reinforced for the cheap cost of Iron Bars, making it incredibly easy to level when compared to the other options, and on some occasions, this pickaxe's final level mining damage is even greater than many of the rarer pickaxes available to be crafted. While many players hope this will be changed to make the other pickaxes more worthwhile to create, this is still something players should make the most of.

2 Soul Seeker
A Pickaxe That Never Breaks

- Made at the Ancient Forge using the Cipher Parchment
- Ancient Pickaxe
- 400 Gold Bars
- 800 Scarlet Bars
- 800 Octarine Bars
- 800 Galaxite Bars
- 100 Ancient Gemstones
The Soul Seeker pickaxe is arguably one of the strongest pickaxes available for players to craft and is likely an end-game goal for many that have adventured within Core Keeper. Not only does it have the highest mining damage and speed, but players also have a chance of receiving various ores by simply mining the walls of various biomes. Above all else, the Soul Seeker also doesn't lose durability, which means it will never need to be repaired.

Core Keeper allows players to level up their skills for great attributes, and these are the best ones to get.
One of the main issues with the Soul Seeker pickaxe is how expensive it is to craft and the effort the player must put into finding the materials if they hope to have this pickaxe constantly available. As seen, it requires a lot of materials, but the player must also find the Ancient Forge and get the Cipher Parchment, which has a chance of dropping from Igneous the Molten Mass.

1 Ancient Pickaxe
Increases The Player's Mining Speed

- Drops from fighting Azeos
While the Soul Seeker pickaxe is arguably one of the strongest in Core Keeper, many players still prefer and do just as much mining damage, if not more, with the Ancient Pickaxe. With a pickaxe that already has a high amount of mining damage, the Ancient Pickaxe is only made better through its increased mining speed, which allows it to break blocks much faster than a regular pickaxe. Unlike the Soul Seeker, the Ancient Pickaxe can be reinforced with increased stats.
While the majority of the other pickaxes in Core Keeper are crafted, the Ancient Pickaxe is encountered differently, as this valuable mining tool has a small percentage chance of dropping from fighting any of the variants of the boss Azeos. Once found, the player is then able to repair their Ancient Pickaxe using scrap parts and won't need to worry about it dropping from Azeos again.
